At the gateway to Desolation Sound, a paradise for boaters and kayakers
Desolation Sound is an international destination for boaters and yachts from all over the world. Full of islands, islets, inlets, rivers, beaches and coves, it is an ocean paradise. Desolation Sound Marine Park is a haven for sea life, and wildlife viewing is easy and encouraged.
The Sunshine Coast is the beautiful shoreline stretching from just north of Vancouver to Lund. It includes the picturesque towns of Gibsons, Sechelt, Pender Harbour and Garden Bay. Some areas are very remote, rugged and wild, whereas others offer luxury getaways. Desolation Sound Resort, with its oceanfront chalets, is on the upper end of the Sunshine Coast. The Powell River area is a vast adventure land for ecotours, and it was named the cultural capital of Canada. Among its many other attractions, the Sunshine Coast features over 300km of hiking trails built by volunteers, including the Sunshine Coast Trail, complete with cabins and access points along the route.
Inland Lake Trail is magnificent and circumnavigates the lake, while an offshoot leads to a mid-lake island.
Lund, BC, is the starting point of Highway 101, which runs all the way to the southern tip of Chile, South America. It is also the last settlement before the inside passage when traveling North by boat along BC’s coastline.
Savary Island is known as BC’s tropical paradise. It is adorned with natural white sand beaches and is a vacation mecca for the few fortunate enough to find out about it and get there. Service is by water taxi only.
